IBS

Dr. Brown’s practice specializes in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and treating symptoms like bloating. His practice began participating in pharmaceutical research in 2007 for new treatments to provide relief to those suffering from bloating and abdominal discomfort. The drugs he tested provided relief a little better than a placebo.

For those suffering from IBS symptoms, what is occurring in their small bowel is that bacteria are entering this area through a triggering event and become trapped where they don’t belong, which is called small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). When the small bowel is compromised by these bacteria it no longer operates in a nearly sterile environment as intended. These unwanted bacteria feed off the starches in the food we eat and produce methane. This gas expands the small bowel and creates the bloating and distention experienced by millions of Americans.

Dr. Brown will continue to add new articles in his digestive health blog related to IBS and how to manage and treat this condition going forward.
